This is an open design document, explaining the rational behind the evolution of the framework.

With more experience and evidence, many of these elements may change in unpredictable ways – it is a work-in-progress.

Previously:

In Iteration 1 we focused on core components which would enable developers easily produce apps focused on amblyopia and strabismus – such as the EyeSkills Camera Rig with its Unity friendly scene/calibration integration. After user testing, we confirmed that this custom VR camera rig can be used to build experiences which break amblyopic suppression, and also help users experience fusion (for the first time in their lives!).

Currently:

Whilst the user testing was highly motivating, and successful, it began to propel us very rapidly down the path of wishing to use the demonstration tools we built to research the phenomena of amblyopia and strabismus directly. This would be a mistake. We lack the resources to do methodical science. It became apparent that the motivation for Iteration 2 needed to be clarified. What are the most effective steps we can take, which will deliver the largest possible benefit – to both to the concept of vision training and to the framework – with the resources we have at hand.

The next sections modify our universe of discourse, clarify our motivations, and then proceed to explain how we will evolve the framework from Iteration 1 into Iteration 2 whilst preserving as much of the work we have already committed as possible.
